I have a bad movie rule called "Skidoo!" That's when you only like the bad movies from good directors. It's named after a misfire of a movie from otherwise decent director, Otto Preminger. Richard C. Sarafian's no Otto Preminger, but he was a decent character actor and director, best known directing the minimalist car chase movie (and inspiration for a Primal Scream album), Vanishing Point (1971).

Solar Crisis (1990) was his last movie as director, and he did indeed take his name off the credits and replaced it with the notorious Alan Smithee. Scenery chewers Jack Palance and Charlton Motherfucking Heston chew the scenery while Tim Matheson breathes through his mouth. They have to stop a solar flare from destroying Earth. Their solution, to quote Primal Scream again, is to get higher than the sun. However, the collected set pieces and scenes never connect, leaving a very disjointed movie. Carl said had this movie was a hit, there would had been an amusement park ride based on it. I prefer an Alan Smithee ride myself.
